Police clamp down on sex workers

Four women were arrested by Mondeor SAPS for sexual offenses and for allegedly living from the proceeds of immorality.

MAYFIELD PARK – On Wednesday February 26 in Gazelle Road, Mayfield Park, four women were arrested by Mondeor SAPS for sexual offenses and for allegedly living from the proceeds of immorality.

The women were aged between 21 to 30 years old.

“It’s about time these women have been arrested. For the past few years they’ve operated along Swartkoppies and Main Road between Kliprivier Drive and Peggy Vera Road, Kibler Park. Sitting suggestively, it’s been an embarrassment in front of my children when I take them to school and back,” a Kibler Park mother said.

Another resident said, “Well done Mondeor SAPS. I also saw some other women were arrested a few weeks back for the same crime.”

While these women have been arrested young women in Bouquet Street and surrounding areas in Rosettenville, stand at the corners of the streets daily and men regularly stop in expensive vehicles to pick them up.

The CHRONICLE tried to speak to one of the teenagers in Bouquet Street last week but she refused to give comment, only shaking her head and then telling the reporter to go away.

According to a resident in Verona Street, he said the teenagers won’t talk because they fear their employer. “They hang around all day picking up men. I feel sorry for some for them because they don’t know how else to earn money. I know many of them take drugs and then they need to prostitute themselves to earn more money for more drugs. It’s a vicious circle,” he said. The man refused to give his name, saying he is scared of some people in the area. “There’s bad men live near here and I wouldn’t like them to know me.”

  1. COMPLAINT AGAINST SAPS IN MOFFATVIEW

    Good day Sir/Madam

RE: DRUGS AND ILLEGAL BROTHEL IN ROSETTENVILLE

I would like to lodge a complaint against Moffat View police station in Gauteng, I am residing in Rosettenville since 2003, there was no crime or any illegal activities in the area.

But last year we started having problems in our area , there are Nigerians who are renting a property in no 62 Berg Street Rosettenville they are selling DRUGS and run an ILLEGAL BROTHEL in that property and each and every night we do not sleep they are making noise fighting and I have phoned the police several times they will go there and they don’t do anything, instead you’ll find them chatting and laughing with these Nigerians. These young women are staying in this house full time.

The other day police went there I thought they are going to search the property they were talking to them like friends and the Nigerians were calling them MY BROTHER, they left without searching the property and I took the registration number and I phone Moffatview police and report that the police officer’s were there but they did not do anything and I said to him this is corruption because we are complaining about these people but they don’t do anything, the officer said to me how do you know if they did not do anything I said to him I was standing outside watching everything this Nigerian guy was bribing the police.

We really need your help because that place is a residential area not a business area. I do not know now who to report this matter to because the police are involved with these illegal activities. According to my knowledge we were told to report crime in our communities but our police are also committing crime who is going to help us if they can’t do their job.

Your assistance will be highly appreciated.

WELL DONE TO MONDEOR POLICE KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.
