Tankers remove water from river

Readers have noticed tankers by the side of the river, which runs near the Lido Hotel and on past Waterstone College, and were worried they were depositing sewage into the water.

SOUTH OF JOHANNESBURG – The CHRONICLE went to the scene on Monday February 16 and spoke to one of the tanker drivers who said, “We aren’t putting anything into the river but taking water out for construction sites to use.”

Water is being taken from the river, not sewage being put in.

This was confirmed when the CHRONICLE reporter phoned Maralco Plant Services and spoke to Mariaan Maritz, who owns the company with her husband Albert. “We rent out water carts to companies and they take water from local rivers to use in the construction of roads, etc. They are definitely not used to transport sewage to dump.”
