SPCA inspectorate wish list for this year

With the new year comes, new challenges and needs for new equipment at SPCA.

REUVEN – Johannesburg and Krugersdorp SPCA Inspectors are on the road 24 hours a day; ready to assist animals in need.

This involves anything from rescuing a dove from an electricity pylon to investigating cases of alleged cruelty. At times, it is necessary for the inspectors to place themselves in danger to help those animals who need them most.

The items on the inspectorate wish list may seem insignificant, but they can mean the world to an animal which is in need of assistance.

· 12 x LED Torches: These are used to light the way in dark situations where an animal needs us.

· 10 x Garmin / Tom Tom Navigators: It becomes challenging to get to the animal as quickly as possible when having to search for places that end up not being listed in a map book. The time taken to get to the animal can be greatly reduced using a GPS device.

· 12 x Bolt Cutters

· 12 x 4 pound Hammers

· 12 x Standard Size Spades

· 3 x Long Ladders (Must be able to fold up so that it can fit in the back of a 1400 bakkie)

· 12 x Crowbars

· 12 x Purse Tazers: Many a time our inspectors are robbed at night while trying to assist an animal. These will be used to defend themselves against criminals, allowing them enough time to contact the South African Police Services for assistance.

Show your love towards animals and donate these items to SPCA’s inspectorate department. To see what they are still in need of, contact Jolene Delport at the JSPCA 011 681 3600 or pr@jhbspca.co.za
