RISANA – Among other reasons besides crime, residents want this road closed because heavy-duty trucks are using Risana Avenue to beat the robots and heavy traffic in South Rand Road.
Ward 57 Clr Bev Turk supports the road closure. “The Risana koppies are being invaded with recyclers, squatters and petty criminals, a number of burglaries to houses are happening, and I can only offer to support their application either for a proper road closure or leasing of the road itself. I have in fact tried to get hold of Joburg Roads Agency but to no avail,” explained Clr Turk.
The Risana Avenue residents held a meeting on Tuesday January 28 to discuss the issue of road closures. The vote was unanimous. It was yes all the way. The residents have been experiencing some difficulty with the officials from Joburg Roads Agency, who have sent them from pillar to post.
“The residents have decided to look at two options, either leasing the road or applying for a full closure. Costs and the impact on residents would play a major role in the decision-making regarding the closure. I must admit, I would support the closure. After all, is a councillor not elected and given the mandate to represent the interests of the residents?” noted Clr Turk.
