Parting is such sweet sorrow

Mr Pillay will forever cherish the opportunity he got from Regents Park.

REGENTS PARK – Principal Silas Pillay bids farewell to Regents Park Primary School (RPPS) in January 2014 to take up leadership of Halfway House Primary in Midrand.

During his term of office in the Johannesburg South District, Pillay has networked with the community and education department to catalyse positive change at the local school. Under his leadership Regents Park Primary secured the support of several businesses and organisations such as Nedbank, WIKA, EOH, Productivity SA, Nexim, WITS, Imfundo SA, etc.

In the space of a year, the school boasts two 21st century computer centres, a biometric attendance system, Ipads, smartboards and the latest e-learning resources. As a result, it is no wonder that learner academic improvement was forthcoming in the ANA and the school was declared a ‘Centre of Inclusive Excellence’ last year.

Pillay said, “We experienced grace and favour and have achieved so much in one year. I have no doubt that RPPS will continue to thrive as a school of excellence. There are not enough words to thank everyone who I’ve worked with here. RPPS will be forever etched in my heart. This is not a goodbye. I will continue to support it wherever I can, and I trust and believe that RPPS will continue to be the best school.

“What God has started he will finish for us. Thank you to my family as well as those who were my pillar of strength. I value family a lot and now I will be closer to them as the school is a few kilometers from home. We will meet in the future and when some of you are in Midrand, my door will always be open. No more Mr Pillay, now it is Silas,” he said jokingly.

At a farewell dinner with SGB members, staff, GDE officials and local community partners, Pillay was thanked for his sterling service to the school and the community. The dinner was held at the school on Saturday January 25. His mother-in-law and his wife helped in preparing the food.
