SOUTH OF JOBURG – Johannesburg South Garden Club member, Brian Hovelmeier, was the guest speaker at the Tuesday garden club meeting and gave a very interesting talk on Bedford Garden Festival and a visit to Hogsback.
Brian showed a slide show of the two topics, which was a real treat for members. He described Bedford with its country gardens, lovely town and friendly farmers. “Within a 50 kilometre radius of Bedford you’ll find beautiful gardens on display which form part of the Bedford Garden festival, held annually.
“We had a marvellous time visiting the different gardens, each offering varied plants, trees and shrubs,” said Brian.
Next stop was Hogsback with its magical mountains and forests. “It is situated in the Amathole Mountains in the Eastern Cape and is surrounded by Afro-montane forests,” said Brian.
The garden club members thoroughly enjoyed the morning and ended with tea and cake.
The next meeting will take place on Saturday February 15 at 10:00 and guest speaker, Wim Spronk, will be talking about nature, and showing a video.
