Decrease in crime over the festive season

MOFFATVIEW – The overall crime reported in the festive season shows a decrease in the Moffatview area. During the month of December, 166 arrests were made. However, offences under drugs and drug trafficking showed an increase. There was a decrease in house breaking and theft, theft of motor vehicle and robbery with firearm cases.

The station wishes to thank all the law enforcement groups for assistance during 2013, Flying squad, TRT, JMPD, K9, Community Patrollers and Reservists. “We are urging the community to continue assisting us in the fight against crime. Moffatview SAPS would like to advise the community at large that when residents go on holidays/weekend they must leave someone to occupy the house during their absence,” said Constable Bila.

During the week of January 5 to 12, Moffatview SAPS arrested 48 suspects for various crimes: assault common – four, assault GBH – five, business breaking – one, common robbery – two, dealing in liquor without a license – one, driving under the influence – six, fraud – six, house breaking and theft – four, possession of drugs – three, possession of suspected stolen property – four, possession of unlicensed fire-arm – one, receiving of suspected stolen goods – one, shoplifting – four, theft – three, theft out of motor vehicle -one; W/A of arrest – one.
