JOBURG SOUTH – Metro Africa Community Support hosted a gala evening early October as part of their annual celebration.

The St Mary’s and Amazing Grace Children’s homes were invited as guests of honour to enjoy the celebration. A huge thank you to all the sponsors who made this possible!

Metro Africa runs community upliftment programmes at St Mary’s and Amazing Grace every week as part of reaching about 1 500 children every week – making a difference in the communities.

Pastor Bill Wilson from New York was the guest speaker during the celebration and he also attended the gala evening. As an orphan from the age of 12 years after being left on the streets by his mother, he encouraged the children and also spent some time with them on the Thursday evening prior to the gala evening. Pastor Bill’s life is a testimony to these children as his organisation now ministers to 100 000 children every week across the world.

The purpose of the gala evening was to celebrate the past year’s achievements and to share the vision for the next year. With an estimated 3.5 million orphans in South Africa alone, the task at hand is enormous, but Metro Africa can’t just sit around waiting for someone to do something.

Metro Africa will continue to reach more and more children every year; which can only be done in partnership with people, businesses, government and other support organisations. Other target groups are old age homes and the youth.

A key focus area for 2014 is to run the same programmes in the schools and discussions are already underway with the Department of Education. The aim is to teach the children good value principles and life skills. Metro Africa will also get hands-on with reading classes and assisting less fortunate schools with feeding schemes.

Metro Africa welcome all support and appeal to you to assist them in uplifting the communities and building a better future.
