Well-deserved honours given to the dedicated crime fighting ladies and gentlemen of the south.

GLENANDA – The place was the Rosebank Union Church, Domestic Watch year-end function was the event and the aim was to give recognition and show appreciation to the crime fighting participants for their commitment to combating crime and being the eyes and ears of the SAPS.

MEC of Community Safety department Faith Mazibuko, Minister of Police Nathi Mthethwa, General Riah Phiyega, Ex Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutentant General Petros and other high ranking SAPS officials together with respectable members of National and sector CPF, Ward Councillors, Resident Association Chairman and members, security company representatives, Domestic Watch coordinators, sponsors and host as well as the guests of honour who were domestic workers, gardeners and groomsmen attended the function on November 21.

A luncheon was held after the main event for the honourees at Little Italy in Glenanda where important supporters of the initiative attended such as ADT security representative Robert Blackburn, Sector 3 Domestic Watch coordinator Carrie Evans, Sector 1 Domestic Watch Coordinator Sarah Wissler, Mondeor CPF coordinator Michelle Pelser, SOS security representatives Martin Barber and Michael, Vick Wessels, Sam Van Bergh and Sean Brown.

The participants comprised of three groups from Kibler Park, Mulbarton, Glenvista and Mondeor.

When the first Domestic Watch meeting was held on June 12 at the Klipriviersberg Recreation Centre, the attendance offered little hope for Sector 3 coordinators but the gradual growth in participants is what has seen the success of this initiative.

Mondeor Community Policing Forum Coordinator, Michelle Pelser at the Domestic Watch luncheon in Little Italy said: “We’ve had a total of 140 ladies who’ve participated in Domestic Watch and we would like to appeal to the rest of employees to send their domestics to participate in lessons.”

Reportedly, the year-end function was jam-packed with exciting entertainment as there was dancing and other fun activities. It is said that 1 000 participants from Johannesburg were present but there were a lot more from other areas.

Michelle Pelser also gave thanks to ADT representative Robert Blackburn, representatives of SOS security Martin Barber and Michael, Sector 1 Domestic Watch coordinator Sarah Wissler, Sector 3 Domestic Watch coordinator Carrie Evans, the sponsors at Little Italy Marco and Paul and the honourees.
