Business as usual after robbery at The Glen

Gun shots and terror filled The Glen Shopping Centre during a violent robbery.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH: The day carried on as if nothing had ever happened at Vodacom The Glen Shopping Centre after the store was held up by armed robbers on November 18.

Although many residents are still shocked by the brazen incident, the staff members at the Vodacom store say they don’t feel scared or at risk of another attack just a few hours after an undisclosed number of armed suspects fired shots with disregard for patrons in attempts to acquire the merchandise they wanted.

Comments on the Glenvista Community Policing Forum’s Facebook Page include calls from angry residents for the shopping centre to be boycotted until security measures are tightened while others were relieved that no one was reported to have been injured.

Other comments on the Glenvista Community Policing Forum’s Facebook Page read:

“We should all boycott the Glen until they jack up their security it is obviously NOT a safe place to shop. Come on Centre management give us some answers,” said one Glenvista resident.

“Time The Glen does something about the security and get rid of the car washers in the parking. We have many of our Southern senior citizens shopping there and they are at high risk. Shocking shocking”!

“The Glen seems to be heaven for criminals these days. There are so many incidents there of late. Wonder what centre management are doing, if anything, to curb the high crime.”

“Let’s just all be grateful that no-one was injured….Thank you Lord…”

“There were two shots fired as the two cars sped out of the parking. The cars were parked quite near the door and reversed in so that the getaway was quick. Heaven knows how they got out of the centre.”

Residents have warned that shoppers should be extra vigilant so as to avoid being a victim of crime at all malls as criminals operate in shopping malls around the country.

The CHRONICLE is still investigating. More information to follow on the robbery.
