Two killed, two serious after collision

Grass cutters were hit by a truck this morning resulting in two deaths.

BASSONIA – A team of workers who were cutting grass on the Comaro Street off-ramp were hit by a truck with a lifting crane device after the driver hit the Comaro bridge, veered onto the pavement and ran into the workforce.

The accident took place at about 09:00 on November 18.

Mike Fontes from Glenvista Community Forum said they were first on the scene. “We called for emergency vehicles and they arrived shortly after. Two workers were declared dead at the scene and two with serious injuries were stabilised before being transported to a local hospital,” said Fontes.

At least two of the other workforce sustained minor injuries and trauma counsellors had been called to the scene to assist with counselling.
