Coping with stress in a busy world

Do not let stress overwhelm you while you continue living your life.

JOHANNESBURG – Stress is reported as being the number one proxy killer disease of the century, and as the staggering number increases, and stress levels escalate, it impacts certain parts of the body: the head, heart, digestive tract, sex drive and certain parts of muscle.

Wiesie Sidnell, a stress expert explained, “You get three stressors. Chemical (tablets, food poisoning, etc.), physical and emotional. All the stuff that happens to the body lie in the memory cells of the body. If for example, a chemical stressor throws you out, it can emotionally impact the body. Remember, if you cut your finger, it heals and that’s why sometimes the body just needs a little bit of love and care to get it working again.”

Reducing daily stress and learning the importance of surrounding oneself with positive and feel-good energy can possibly assist in maintaining greater health, and creating coping mechanisms for the demands that environmental stressors and modern living make on us.

Wiesie also explains that, “Living healthy is important. If you are using medication, try to get a more natural alternative. Exercise is important because it releases your ‘happy hormone’ endorphins. It is also very important to keep your community clean and safe, because all of this plays a role on your health. We always tend to worry about the conditions that we are living in.”

Resident of Alberton, Tanya Olckers says, “I deal with stress through meditation and getting regular adjustments from my chiropractor. Just the simple act of stopping what it is you’re doing and taking a few deep breaths can make the world of difference. It’s easier to make decisions from a place of calm.”

How can we remove stress from our lives? One way is to ask what it is we are stressing about to begin with. Acknowledge the situation, understand what it is and then devise a plan to overcome it.

It is essential to know that circumstances can change from time to time, and devising proper structured ways to improve and re-create your surroundings goes a long way to personal well-being.
