SUIDEROORD: A resident of Burger Street, Suideroord, has had enough of being threatened to have her home’s amenities cut off, electricity, water and no pick-up of her refuse.
Wendy Kruger has been billed incorrectly and even though she only owes an actual amount of R3028.73 on her account she has received two pre-termination notices for an amount outstanding of R7511676.00.
“I am worried sick and very upset about this. I looked into the problem and saw that my stand number and Gon-Far Property Investment’s are the very same. I did manage to speak to someone at Gon-Far property Investment and he said the amount owing is under investigation.
“I’ve also been to Region F to try and sort out the problem but to no avail. Ward 54 Councillor Sergio Dos Santos is trying to assist, as is Councillor (PR) Ward 125 Peter Stewart, which I’m very grateful for but really, this is a ridiculous situation and it needs to be sorted out as soon as possible.
“I have elderly parents who live with us and if we have no electricity and water, it will be very hard for them,” said Wendy.
The family are living in fear of having their amenities cut off every day. “Last week when Joburg City staff came to cut off the electricity and water they were accompanied by SAPS. Apart from being absolutely unfair as we don’t owe the money, the whole issue is becoming an embarrassment as our neighbours are wondering what’s going on when the police arrive. Now I’ve attached our actual account to the outside meter box, which states the amount we do actually owe and I hope them men who come to switch off our electricity and water will pay heed to this.
“I’ve heard of many other people being in the this same situation, apparently owing vast amounts of money which they don’t actually owe, and you feel powerless to do anything about it. Surely someone can assist me and others who sit with this ridiculous mess,” Wendy concluded.
