Heritage day at Turffontein Primary

Culture and education play a huge role in the learner’s growth and on September 19, Turffontein Primary showcased interesting cultural performances by Grade 6 and 7 learners as it is heritage month.

Mr Pete Halsall, a teacher from St Wilfred’s Primary School at Warrington in England was invited to be part of the heritage event that fascinated him.

“In England we do not have so any cultures and languages. South Africa is a diverse country where you have the opportunity to learn all 11 official languages which I certainly find creative. As soon as I get back to England I will definitely share my heritage experience with my learners who most believe that in South Africa people live in bushes and wear animal skin,” he said.

Samkeliso, a grade 7 learner said it is very important to celebrate heritage day particularly for them as school children’s so they can know who they are, where they come from and where they going with their future.

Mrs Twala, a Grade 3 teacher was impressed by the learner’s response and to see them wearing their cultural wear made her feel like a true South African as she concluded by saying “my culture, your culture, one nation.”
