Black on White: Mbeki campaigns for ANC

The first question worth asking, with Mbeki being ‘lured’ to assist the ANC win the middle class vote is, doesn’t the party have leaders they can rely on?

As much as I can credit the ANC for being a leading party when it comes to their political prowess, we need to stop and think beyond their strategies to get votes. As I mentioned before, voting at the polls is not a destination, but the beginning of a five year journey.

We need to question whether it is Mbeki or Jacob Zuma who is going to run for President, and our answer needs to tell us who should be the man engaging potential voters. Yes, Mbeki can ‘assist’ in luring voters, but what happens after elections? He would have won the party votes and someone else would be president.

The ANC’s current achilles heel is their leader. According to reports, Mbeki was brought in to assist with middle class votes because of Zuma’s unpopularity. This actually goes to show or expose a loop hole in the ruling party, something we all need to consider when voting.

What also concerns me is the fact that, the ANC continues to remind us of the past. As much as we can credit past leaders, we can only honour their legacy by delivering quality services to the people of South Africa.

The only people who are likely to benefit from Mbeki campaigning for the ANC, is the ruling party. As for the people that matter, ordinary South Africans, we are likely to be exposed to the same injustices we have experienced over the past five years.

I think the ruling party needs to start looking at leaders who can stand for position and be held accountable for the job they have committed to do. It is time South Africa’s voice to be heard! We know we deserve better, it is time we demand better!
