Dumping of pups in the south

Do not hesitate to contact Inspector Rulof Jackson on 011 435 0672 or 082 892 2776 for any lost puppies.

REGENTS PARK: On Tuesday September 17, a three-week-old Chihuahua cross pup was handed into the Animal Anti-Cruelty League by a concerned Johannesburg South resident, who had come across the tiny, defenceless animal, wandering in the street.

A call was also received by the AACL on Wednesday September 18, from an elderly resident in the South Hills district, who reported a pup of similar age having been dumped the previous day in her yard.

This pup has since been collected by an AACL inspector, and together with the first pup, are being bottle fed and cared for by kennel staff.

It has been reported that someone has been seen in the South Hills/Unigray area wheeling a shopping trolley around, which contains very small pups. The AACL would like to make the public aware, that at three weeks, or younger, pups are far too young to be fending for themselves.

At this age, they have yet to develop their own teeth and should still be suckling off the mother. Ideally, pups should not be taken away from the mother until they are at least eight weeks old. If you are aware of who the responsible person is, for dumping these pups, please do not hesitate to contact Inspector Rulof Jackson on 011 435 0672 or 082 892 2776.

  1. Searching for this perpetrator may not be the best action – him/her may then decide to dispose of the pups by other means.

Pray they are all rescued safely.

Makes me angry and sick nonetheless.
