Benoni team wins the Caxton Reynolds Race

A FAMILY fun day held at Boksburg Rugby Club in celebration of Heritage Day on Saturday September 21, also saw the Benoni team of the Caxton Reynolds Race take first place; winning a trip for four to Mauritius.

The Springs team came in second with a weekend stay at the Soweto Hotel, and the Brakpan team in third place with a night’s stay and full day spa treatment at the Birchwood Hotel.

The teams’ final task required all three final teams to start in front of the SA Reynolds Travel Centre early on Saturday morning where they had to identify ten different countries on a map in order to get their next lead. Then they had to go to Hirsch’s to assemble a Webber braai, after which they had to find the Birchwood leaf, hidden somewhere within the Birchwood Hotel and Conference Centre. Their last task of the day was to peal a bag of potatoes at the New Beginnings centre in Boksburg.

The first team to arrive at the Boksburg Club, Kate Rheeders and Jenny Seaton-Smith from Benoni, were crowned the winners of the race. Their charity, the Rynpark Retirement Village received a R10 000 voucher from Hirsch’s.

While supporters and sponsors waited for the teams to arrive at their final destination, Matt Stern entertained the crowd alongside a dance group from Sibikwa.

Various food stalls selling anything from bunny chow to American corn dogs were there to warm up the crowd with their delicious food.
