Back to school – are we ready?

With school re-opening for Grades Sevens and 12s this week, the COURIER asked our readers if they thought schools are ready and whether learners should go back. This is what they had to say:

NOMSA MSWELI: “I think it’s unreasonable for children to go back to school. The government should have considered cancelling this whole academic year.”
RENÉ WALKER: “I understand why it is necessary for the schools to open because not everyone has access to e-learning platforms. However, I am worried that it is not safe for the children to return to school.”
SMALL SEHATA: “This decision had to be taken after all to save this academic year. Although the government should prioritise hygiene in schools because this virus will always be there.”
MICHELAINE HANEKOM: “I think it is a good thing. The virus is going to be here for the foreseeable future and we need to learn to live with it. I think we all need to return to a sense of normality, especially the children and young people.”
