[GALLERY + VIDEOS]: Great fun on Dental Health Day

Waja said the day was for disadvantaged and differently enabled children to enjoy and be educated in a fun way.

THE Waja Ka Meno Trust had again this year gathered at Mac’s Party Venue in Eikenhof for their annual Dental Health Day for the disadvantaged and differently enabled children to help the children enjoy themselves with song and dance on September 12.

Waja Ka Meno Dental Day is an inspiring programme founded by Dr Shoukat Waja, a local dentist and philanthropist. The trust was founded with the aim of providing free maxillofacial surgery, reconstructive dental surgery and general dental care to disabled and vulnerable children.

Waja said the day was for disadvantaged and differently enabled children to enjoy and be educated in a fun way.

“Today these learners, who came from six different schools, are the stars of the day and they will be spoiled throughout the day with lovely performances, food, dental health products and stationery.

“We also thank all the sponsors who readily came on board. It is an expensive product, however, I am happy that more people are buying into our vision. I also want to commend Jiswa School, our founding school in this programme. They are turning 50 and I would like to thank them for their support and dedication towards this programme. Also, the company Wright Milners who donated R500 000 worth of dental health products,” he said.

Makupa Madia, Southgate Mall marketing coordinator, said they are honoured to be involved with this organisation and in support of the annual dental health awareness day.

“The annual Dental Health Day continues to grow each year. Southgate Mall is proud to be part of the programme and would like to thank our tenant, Dr Waja, for his immense contribution to the community through the outreach programme, and its impact in the lives of those they serve. We also secured sponsorship for emergency medical services from Maponya 911,” she said.

Marjorie Thekiso, marketing manager at Maponya 911, explained why they decided to get involved.

“We believe we need to give back to the community. This can be achieved by providing support to community-based projects such as the Waja Ka Meno Dental Day as projects like these enable us to create awareness for our service offering. We are with the community all the time. However, people tend to think we are not accessible as we are a private organisation. It is our aim to show we are one with the community.”
