GALLERY: Christmas in July for cake decorators

Cake decorating is fun and worth trying.

IT was definitely about all things sweet and tasty and one simply stood in awe of the skill of creative decorating appealing to the eye at the Christmas in July workshop on July 21.

Accomplished decorators, teachers and judges Rachelle Meskin, Eleanor Casey, Mary Marques, Sue Reid and Ursula Tizzone shared their expertise with several women in attendance as sugarcraft lovers celebrated the annual workshop. The workshop was hosted by the Wits South Branch of the Cake Decorators Guild at St Paul’s United Church in Mulbarton.

TOO MUCH SUGAR: More sugarcraft and different ingredients used by bakers in creating their cake decorations were also on display at the workshop.

“A lot of time and thought was spent and many hours of preparation to share with fellow sugarcraft lovers. Everyone went home with finished items made at the workshop,” said Tizzone.

All the delegates who attended worked with the help of the tutors to execute sugarcraft, including the Christmas flower-hellebores, Christmas cracker, nativity scene, Santa and a bas-relief (a type of sugarcraft) Santa.

This was a team effort by the committee members and members of the Wits South Branch who spent many hours on preparation.

Everyone’s effort from working in the kitchen to supplying the delicious baked goods for tea and lunch came together to make it a perfect day for all.

FOR THE LOVE OF PURPLE: Cake decorators went all out to create all things beautiful.

“We owe a great thank you for the generosity to our sponsors who contributed towards making the day a success,” Tizzone added. The sponsors were Pick n Pay Meadowlands (supplying the food and vegetables for the luncheon), Jen Cutters, Huletts, Sugar and Crafts, Max Frank stationery, Golden Cloud, Tiger Brands, HPC Manufacturing, Pharmaceutical Contractors, Rolkem, Mondeor Home Bake, Luiza Vieira, Vanessa Martins, Bella Verissimo and Ursula Tizzone.

IT’S A BEAUTY: A display of the different sugarcraft that cake decorators worked on during the Christmas in July workshop.

The next meeting will be held on August 18 at St Paul’s United Church where there will be a demonstration on how to make the poinsettia flower.

GETTING THERE: Some of the delegates who attended the workshop to learn more about sugarcrafting follow their tutor’s lesson.
