Joburg South family all set for FIFA World Cup in Brazil

Ken Apen is flying to Brazil on July 3 to watch the 2014 FIFA World Cup first quarter final match between Brazil and Columbia.

RIDGEWAY – Ridgeway resident Ken Apen is flying to Brazil on July 3 to watch the 2014 FIFA World Cup first quarter finals, thanks to Sony and Bears Southgate Stores.

He is taking his family along after winning a pair of FIFA World Cup tickets valued at R175 000, including air tickets to Brazil, hotel stay, spending money and ground transfers in Brazil.

All he did was to buy a Sony TV at Bears Southgate Stores early this year. The competition closed on May 14 and the draw was done on the following day.

“With the Sony Competition, which is the official partner of the Brazil FIFA World Cup, a customer had to choose from an existing range of Sony products and stand a chance to witness the live action at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. This special offer was only available at Beares and Ellerines,” said Roshnee Pillay, EHL Group Marketing: Head Media and Public Relations.

“I must say I didn’t know about the competition. After I bought the Sony TV, a few weeks later my cousin, Godfrey Apen, got a call informing him that I won tickets to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. I couldn’t believe it at first, I called the store and it was confirmed,” Ken remembers.

After winning the tickets, Ken had a dilemma, because the tickets only allowed two people and he has a family of four.

“I couldn’t choose one out of three family members; my wife Cathy, elder son Calvin (22) and Kilian (9). So we decided to make arrangements so that we can all go, so we are going to watch the match in São Paulo, Maracanã Stadium. The game will be between Brazil and Colombia,” he said.

Bears Southgate Stores branch manager Lance Aspeling congratulated Ken and his family.
