Visually impaired Kenilworth resident shares his journey

Give Corrie an instrument, visit him a couple of months later and you will not believe your ears when he plays it to you.

WHAT would you do if you were visually challenged but wanted to learn to play music instruments, programme computers, mix and produce music, but people did not want to teach you because they thought you were not capable of learning?

This is the story of a Kenilworth genius and an inspiration to all.

Corrie Visagie, sat down with the Southern COURIER for an interview about his life, talent, charity and how being visually challenged made him view life from a different angle.

This amazing man might not see your hand when raised to shake it, but he can definitely do so much more with his hands than most people who can see.

Corrie, who is going blind very slowly due to glaucoma, programmed his computer to speak and understand Afrikaans so he could use it to produce his music. But unlike some modern music producers, he wants his sound to be recorded from a real instrument, played by himself.

Amazingly, he taught himself how to play various instruments, including the piano, drums, guitar, bass guitar, concertina and organ, just from listening to them. Give Corrie an instrument, visit him a couple of months later and you will not believe your ears when he plays it to you.

Speaking to the COURIER, Corrie mentioned how he teaches other people to make music and the fact that he prefers not to be given money. “Money will be finished, but giving people skills that could help them do things for themselves lasts forever,” he said.

Corrie owns Kwagga Productions and has four albums, ‘Waves of Balance’, ‘So klink èk’, ‘Hoor jy my?’, and ‘So klop ‘n boerehart’. He can be contacted on 082 978 0578 or kwagga.productions@gmail.com or on Kwagga Productions’s Facebook page.
