Great day out

“A day out in the sunshine at Lusito Land was just awesome and the vibey atmosphere was absolutely amazing."

FREEDOM Day, Wednesday April 27, was celebrated by many locals, as well as others from further away, at the South’s own Lusito Land Festival.

“A day out in the sunshine at Lusito Land was just awesome and the vibey atmosphere was absolutely amazing. It was as if everyone was out to enjoy a great time and even though we had to queue for food and drinks, it was no problem as we joked and chatted to others in the lines. Refreshing drinks of caipirinha, a cocktail made from cane, castor sugar and lemons went down very well, and we decided to share a few delicious Portuguese favourites between the four of us. Espetadas, large chunks of beef rubbed in garlic and salt, skewered onto a bay leaf stick cooked over hot coals with Portuguese bread, grilled sardines with green peppers, trinchado, giblets and crispy chips. Finger licking good, quite literally!

“We took a walk around the stalls, with the stall holders friendly and fun, selling everything from fresh oysters from Saldanha Bay, the finest olives and pestos, nut and lemon liqueurs, as well as clothing, Portuguese décor and handcrafted wooden goods. Young and old enjoyed the Fun Park with rides and of course Lusito Land wouldn’t be enjoyed without sugary farturas, which we bought on our way out of the festival. A perfect way to end a perfect day.” – Julie Maule
