Man commits suicide after shooting sister

Police said that although the suspect has died, a murder charge will still be opened against him. The motive for the death is unknown.

BOOYSENS Police have confirmed that the man who shot and killed his sister on Friday, January 29, in Turffontein, committed suicide the following day.

“At about 14:30, members at Booysens SAPS were contacted and asked to go to a shooting that took place in Turffontein. When they arrived, they were led to a vehicle that was parked outside a flat complex, where they noticed a female in the front seat who had been shot,” explained the communication officer, W/O Lorraine van Emmerik.

According to information received, the suspect fled the scene. “The standby member from the murder unit was called out to the scene. He was later contacted by the Heidelberg SAPS informing him that the deceased’s brother had been found. He had committed suicide. It is believed that the deceased shot his sister and then committed suicide,” she said.

Police said that although the suspect has died, a murder charge will still be opened against him. The motive for the death is unknown.
