PinkDrive: Breast cancer awareness ODI at Bidvest Wanderers

Fans are urged to donate R20 by simply sending a SMS to 40158 with the keyword PINKDRIVE.

CRICKET fans in South Africa and around the world are urged to get behind the fourth Momentum One Day International (ODI) between the Castle Lager Proteas and England at the Bidvest Wanderers Stadium on Friday, February 12.

The traditional Pink ODI aims to raise R1-million from initiatives at the match to support the wonderful work the PinkDrive is doing in the breast cancer awareness space.

This challenge was made on Wednesday, January 27, when details around the popular Pink ODI were announced.

The last three Pink ODIs saw a total of R1 475 000 raised, which contributed to PinkDrive purchasing new mobile mammography and gynaecology trucks.

Fans are urged to donate R20 by simply sending a SMS to 40158 with the keyword PINKDRIVE. Details on how fans from outside of South Africa can donate to this fabulous cause will be made available shortly.

The Proteas will once again wear pink in this match to show their support and create further awareness for breast cancer.

“With the risk of breast cancer capable of impacting any South African family, we are pleased to support the PinkDrive campaign and raise awareness,” said CSA chief executive, Haroon Lorgat. “Our support for PinkDrive is one of our foremost social programmes and underlines the fact that cricket has a broader responsibility within society.

“The Pink ODI has mobilised cricket fans and the CSA family in support of a most worthy cause.

“I would especially like to thank the boards of Pakistan, India, the West Indies and now England whose players and team management have wholeheartedly supported the spirit of our Pink Day ODIs. This is truly what sport can do.”

Cricket South Africa (CSA), Bidvest, the Gauteng Cricket Board and sponsors, Momentum and Castle Lager, will also be contributing to the ‘pinkness’ of the day to raise funds. Billboards and other branding paraphernalia around Bidvest Wanderers will be swopped out with pink and merchandise will be on sale at the stadium.

As in previous years, support for the Proteas will be backed up with sizable donations for every run, four or six hit. Also if a player hits the giant red inflatable Momentum “M”, Momentum will donate an additional R100 000 to PinkDrive.
