New champions crowned in Investec league

New high school champions crowned at schools league.

The new high school champions of the 2015 Investec Soccer League were crowned following the play-offs between the initial 20 schools.

The league finals saw the final four schools battle it out at the University of Johannesburg’s Soweto campus, on Saturday, September 12. As each of the four finalists would walk away with handsome prize money, all that was left was to determine the winner.

Soccer stars Moeneeb Josephs and Thulani Hlatswayo were in attendance while the players were vying for the final spot.

The final four schools were Mokgome Secondary School, Lamula Secondary School, Thulani Secondary School and the second runner-ups from last year, Anchor Comprehensive School. With scouts from FC Cape Town, Bidvest Wits FC, SASFA and TUKS FC on the prowl, the players enthusiastically took to the field as family and friends cheered them on from the side lines.

The first semi-final saw Anchor beating Lamula 1-0. The second semi-final went into a penalty shootout after both Mokgome and Thulani drew 2-2 after regulation time. A nail-biting shootout saw Mokgome snatch a 5-4 win.

The final was extremely competitive but Anchor Comprehensive School took the top honours 2–1 over Mokgome Secondary School who still took home a much valued R60 000.
