More than 10 injured in taxi crash

Approximately 15 people were injured this morning when two taxis collided at the Jan Smuts and Eton Road intersection in Johannesburg.

JOHANNESBURG – ER24 paramedics, along with other services, responded through the early morning traffics, and on arrival on scene, found the two taxis in the middle of the road. Both taxis had sustained a large amount of damage in the collision.

On assessment, paramedics found that roughly 15 patients had been injured in the collision. Two of the patients were found to be in a critical condition.

ER24 Spokesperson, Russel Meiring said, “Rescue services had to use the jaws-of-life equipment to free one of the drivers who was trapped in his vehicle in a 30 minute operation.

“Once freed, paramedics immediately began their treatment and provided the two critically injured patients with advanced life support interventions.”

Once treated, the critically injured patients were rushed through to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.

The remaining patients on scene were found to have sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate. They were treated for their injuries and thereafter transported to nearby facilities for further observations.

The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
