Christmas in July hosted for a good cause

Lerato Education Centre gets support to continue helping needy children in Eikenhof.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – SOJO Business and Tourism Forum, an organisation which helps businesses located in the South of Johannesburg network and know what products or services are available, hosted a Christmas in July event in aid of charity.

The event was hosted on Friday, July 31, at the Thaba Eco Hotel in Kibler Park, and was attended by many guests, including Miss Earth South Africa regional finalist, Jessica Janse Van Rensburg.

Jessica said she was happy that SOJO was helping the Lerato Education Centre, an organisation which supports over 470 children between the ages of three and seven, from the informal settlement in Eikenhof. The education centre has about 30 teachers but receives no government funding and depends on the funding of sponsors. In fact, the closest water source in the informal settlement is about two kilometers away.

Jessica said she appreciated all the organisations, companies and individuals who supported the education centre. She quoted Nelson Mandela when expressing the importance of the education centre and said: “Education is the most powerful weapon which we can use to influence the world.”

CEO of SOJO, Nicky Vakaloudis, said she was very happy to see the tenth annual Chistmas in July event celebrated by supporting another charity which helps those who are less fortunate.

Gift items collected from guests and sponsors were delivered to the education centre for the children to enjoy. These gifts put big smiles on the children’s faces.
