Booysens police a no show

Ormonde resident patrollers chased three suspects on Erding Road who were seen robbing a woman on July 31.

ORMONDE – The woman was allegedly on her way home from work when the three suspects confronted and robbed her.

Ormonde patrollers heard a distant scream for help and and gave chase to the men. One suspect managed to escape but two suspects carrying a large knife were caught.

“These guys mean business. They are carrying this big knife with the intention of robbing people. Inside this green bag of theirs, we saw marijuana and many condoms. Only God knows why they go around robbing people while carrying condoms,” said patroller, Jabulani Mazibuko.

After contacting Booysens SAPS, residents called a COURIER reporter to the scene on Erding Road where the two suspects were surrounded by residents.

“We called the Booysens SAPS switch board number several times and it was funny because they were asking us for directions. This is an area in their sector but they didn’t even know it,” continued Mazibuko.

The officer at Booysens SAPS assured residents that a vehicle had been dispatched to the scene. As they waited for hours for the police to show up, the growing number of residents who had gathered at the scene, had to be controlled as tempers were flying.

No vehicle from Booysens SAPS arrived and no SAPS patrol or security company vehicles were seen from about 19:45 to 22:40. That was when the patrollers let the suspects go.

“This office can find no record of the incident in question, but the matter has been brought to the management’s attention and is been investigated so that the matter can be rectified,” said W/O Lorraine van Emmerik, Booysens SAPS communications officer.

“This office has often mentioned that when a person wants to report a case, it is advisable for the community to lodge the complaint with 10111or 112 so that there is record of the complaint. We have also advised that a reference number be obtained so that we can find out exactly what the situation is.

“Once this is done, the complainant can also contact the sector van. Brigadier Rangasamy has spoken with the community patrollers in the area that you are enquiring about and has explained to them the correct procedure that needs to be followed.”
