BREAKING: Four killed in the South of Johannesburg

Four people were killed at The Hill earlier this afternoon. Southern COURIER reporter is at the scene.

THE HILL – Four people were killed earlier this afternoon in what appears to have been a shootout in The Hill.

According to Southern COURIER reporter at the scene, James Mahlokwane, “The only information which can possibly be confirmed at this stage is the number of people who died.”

Although details at this stage may be sketchy, it is possible that a shootout may have occurred as a result of a raid on truck hijacking syndicate.

Law enforcement units are at the scene and the crowd is clearing from the scene.

A detailed report on what has likely happened will be given through as soon as the COURIER is made aware.

In what is believed to be a related incident, two suspects where arrested earlier during the afternoon in Kibler Park where a cash-in-transit vehicle was abandoned.

The Comaro CHRONICLE reported, “Two suspects were apprehended at the Kibler Park recreation centre, the other two escaped using a utility bakkie, they were later found at The Hill where a shootout ensued.”

The CHRONICLE also quoted a statement on the Glenvista Community Policing Forum’s (CPF) Facebook Page, which included the following, “Earlier today a truck and VW Polo hijacked by a gang of about 14 men in Eloff Street Johannesburg carrying Samsung electronic goods was recovered close to Marie Street Kibler Park (minus the load which had been transferred to another vehicle).

“It is unknown whether the shootout in The Hill and the hijacking is related but we suspect so.”
