A treat for security at The Glen

“We're asked to start with 67 minutes dedicated to special projects that seek to make a difference in the lives of the needy. Goodwill and ubuntu has neither time frame nor limits and boundaries,” says Victor Sibeko.

ON Saturday, July 18, The Glen Shopping Centre’s security personnel were treated to a scrumptious buffet breakfast by a humble Samaritan, an entrepreneur and shop owner at the centre.

“We’re asked to start with 67 minutes dedicated to special projects that seek to make a difference in the lives of the needy. Goodwill and ubuntu has neither time frame nor limits and boundaries,” says Victor Sibeko, the sponsor and organiser of the Mandela Day event at The Glen Shopping Centre.

“The very humanity we pride ourselves, ubuntu/botho/menslikheid, can be strange sometimes. We are quick to complain and criticise, but hardly take a moment to appreciate each other. We all assume it is human to use magic words such as please and thank you, yet hardly take a moment to say so to people who are often taken for granted, yet our survival rests on their hands to a large extent. These are none other than security personnel or guards. They, like any other person, depend on their jobs for income. They are human too, husbands, wives, brothers, and sisters. They are faced with more challenges and among those who leave home with no guarantee that they may return. They are more at risk than any one of us, just like police, and deserve not only to be respected but honoured.

“Without doubt, security personnel are my heroes. They are those special people who do extra things for their fellow man, be it those in need, and those unable to do things for themselves in relation to their well-being, safety and security,” concluded Victor.
