Charity wins big at 702 Walk the Talk

The organisation speaks on behalf of the children in a bid to end violations of children’s rights.

THE SOS Children’s Villages South Africa won R50 000 for being the largest charity bond thanks to the 702 Walk the Talk, with 269 members signed up for the event already.

The 702 Walk the Talk will take place on Sunday, July 26, and this year, the event encourages all entrants to walk for a cause, belief or charity, in the spirit of Lead SA by asking participants: “What are you walking for?” To this end, the organisers decided to encourage charitable organisations to rally their teams by offering a R50 000 prize to the biggest group.

SOS Children’s Villages works in more than 133 countries around the world, including South Africa. It supports families and helps children at risk of losing or who have already lost parental care, to grow up in a loving home.

“In a world filled with poverty, violence, and injustice, the greatest victims are often children. Everything we do is based on the best interests of the child, and each has an individual development plan. We focus on care, health, education and general development of each individual.

“We provide practical support over the long term, so that each child or young person can develop resilient relationships and face life’s challenges in the future. In turn, this strengthens communities and the whole of society,” said Seithuto Seakgwa, PR communications and branding at SOS Children’s Villages.

For about 30 years, SOS Children’s Villages has been working in South Africa to either help families care for their children or to provide an alternative family.

The organisation also speaks on behalf of the children in a bid to end violations of children’s rights and improve living conditions worldwide.
