More opportunities for youth in Kenilworth

This good news was shared at the Certificate of Recognition ceremony held at the Kenilworth Nursery and Pre-School SYDC on Tuesday, June 30.

ONLY three months after personal development, employability and communication training from the South Youth Development Centre (SYDC), 35 youths found a workplacement.

This good news was shared at the Certificate of Recognition ceremony held at the Kenilworth Nursery and Pre-School SYDC on Tuesday, June 30. This is a joint venture by the SYDC, Islamic Careline, City of Johannesburg and the ANCYL in Ward 124.

“We wanted to build a well-rounded young person. Someone who can present him or herself. That is why life and job opportunity skills were part of this project. We started at Rotunda Park with the Believers Care Society and now we are here helping more young minds to prosper,” said project facilitator, Mesuli Khoza from the Islamic Careline.

Ward 124 Clr Sydney Radebe applauded this initiative. “I am fully behind this project and I’m glad the ANCYL is involved. You must also remember, Johannesburg mayor Clr Parks Tau’s, Jozi@Work and Vulindlela eJozi programmes because these initiatives will empower such ventures. My office is open for any assistance as we don’t want to see our youth idling and using nyaope. Therfore I congratulate you on this vision because you are not asking for handouts from the government, instead you are building your own empire.”

ANCYL chairperson, Moeketsi Mapheelle, commended Clr Radebe for supporting this initiative and he wished the 35 youths, who are now employed through this initiative, all the best.

SYDC secretary, Micahel Ngcaku said the centre also offers karate, dance, gym and cleaning campaigns in conjunction with the City’s Social Department. He also thanked the Muslim Aids Programme (a joint project of the Jamiatul Ulama, Islamic Medical Association and Islamic Careline) for their assistance in this initiative.
