Murdered man’s wife recounts tragic episode

The victims wife heard the scuffle but not the gun shots

DETAILS of the senseless murder of Oakdene businessman, Lorenzo Cordero, who was previously mistakenly identified as Larenzo Lima, were revealed by his grieving wife, Mechelle Cordero.

Mechelle has been trying to deal with the tragic loss of her husband, who was shot and killed on June 9.

Two assailants managed to sneak into Cordero’s business premises, Taxfin Trust Fiduciary Services CC, on 2 Lebanon Street, as the couple made their way onto the property at 05:45.

COURIER reporter met with the widow to get the full story on what transpired on that terrible morning when they were attacked.

“He was in reception and he had just put down the cats; I was down the passage when I heard him shouting. I had the keys in my hand so I pressed the panic button as I heard him shouting,” said Mechelle.

According to Mechelle she and Lorenzo worked seven days a week, and every morning she opened the gate and led the way onto the property while Lorenzo parked the car and came in with his cats.

At 05:45, it’s still dark outside and that is what prevented the couple from seeing the two criminals sneaking in.

After she heard the scuffle and her husband shouting, Mechelle bravely made her way to where Lorenzo was.

“As I arrived, Lorenzo was lying face down on the floor,” she said.

”I leaned down to see what was going on, because I didn’t hear gun shots.”

One of the intruders had already left the property and was outside as she attended to Lorenzo.

Mechelle added that, when she looked up, she saw the criminal looking at her.

”I saw a guy sitting on the pillar outside and then I ran to the window and hit against the Trellidor; he then jumped over.

”I believe there was more than one guy, because there was another grey beanie outside, but I only saw one person,” she explained.

“It feels like I’m going to see him again, like it didn’t happen.

”It is so unreal, because he was so full of life and he was responsible for a lot of people; he was a good man and he helped everyone.”

The family is appealing to the public for more information and a reward is being offered to people with information that will lead to the arrest of the killers.
