Flower power: Winners receive awards

The club held its AGM, with many of the members receiving awards and prizes for their entries.

INDIVIDUALS with creative minds and green fingers got what was coming to them when the winners of the Johannesburg South Garden Club garden competition and flower show were announced.

The club held its AGM on Tuesday, May 26, with many of the members receiving awards and prizes for their entries.

“We held an extremely successful garden competition in February and our autumn flower show in March. The gardens entered were of a high standard and they were also open to the public for viewing. At the autumn flower show we had a fantastic response, with many members entering their cut flowers, plants and herbs, as well as floral arrangements. All in all, this has been a wonderful year for the garden club and we look forward to welcoming new members,” said chairman Maud Pickup.

“We’d like to thank the sponsors of prizes for the garden competition and we really appreciated your generosity. Thanks to Tulip Nursery, Builders Warehouse, Rietvlei Nursery, Olive Nursery, Jane Griffiths and Villa Lugano Guest House.”

The morning ended with a braai and visit by the Alberton Stetsons, who got the members rocking and rolling.
