Soccer club developed to fight drugs

Children are targeted at a young age to join gangs because of drugs and other crimes.

Johannesburg South youth are using sports and other related activities to fight the war against drug use among teenagers, as this deviant behaviour has become a headache for worried parents.

Resident Quin Heidi has witnessed another concerned community member, Jack Msibi, who is encouraging young people of the South to stay off the streets and join a soccer club instead.

“As you are aware, crime and drugs is rife in the communities in the South. Children are targeted at a young age to join gangs and be part of the “in” crowd,” Quin said.

The boys, aged between 10 and 17, are are from various schools, including Diversity High, Elandspark High, Suidheuwels Laerskool, Crestview Primary School and Jeppe College.

“As a free club it faces many challenges. I hereby appeal to the community and companies in the South to open their hearts and support the vision of this young gentleman with his soccer club,” Quin said.

The club’s biggest challenges are refreshments, transport to away games (these are the games they do not play in their home ground), soccer nets, training bibs, soccer balls, and first aid kits. Parties wishing to contribute can contact Jack on 061 230 1352.
