Discovered: 55-year-old Edith makes beautiful creations

Fifty-five year old Edith's husband is ill and the family of nine barely survive on his meagre pension

EDITH McBride is a 55-year-old talented woman from Glenesk, whose beautiful creations could earn an extra income for her family.

She knows if she can start selling her designs and sharing her expertise, she would be able to afford home-care for her frail husband, allowing her more time to be creative and generating an income.

This talented woman lives in a home with stunning furniture, which is the handiwork of her and her husband, Besil.

The family of nine barely survive on Besil’s meagre monthly pension.

Edith told the COURIER her story while seated on a couch she had made, near a mirror she had decorated, and wearing a blue dress she had fashioned for her daughter’s wedding.

“We did not have money to buy an expensive dress,” she said.

For Edith, life is not as easy as it should be for a person with so much talent.

She loves her family and husband so much that she has to support them.

Edith is currently making leather headboards, and is building them from material some people might call waste.

Do not let the word ‘waste’ confuse you – her work is anything but rubbish.

Her home is packed with various designs she and her husband made when his health still allowed him to assist her.

DA ward 124 PR Councillor Tyrell Meyers learnt about Edith’s plight and wants residents of the South to know about her.

Edith wants to learn more and would appreciate further training, and the support of people from the South so that she can start selling her creations.

People who wish to contact Edith can reach her on 071 787 6345 or her daughter Zyllian, on 078 441 5436.
