Suspects found with fake cigarettes

The suspects were targeting Chinese and Pakistan nationals who are selling cigarettes at their businesses.

THE Flying Squad arrested four men for manufacturing, dealing and possession of fake cigarettes.

Officers received information about the suspects on Wednesday, May 6, from the National Crime Intelligence unit. The suspects are believed to have hijacked trucks, which were then used for transporting their cigarettes to locations of trade.

Members of the Flying Squad followed the suspects to Oakdene, where they searched their vehicle and found car keys belonging to a tobacco transporting vehicle. This vehicle was carrying the boxes of cigarettes.

A Nissan Almera was also discovered and is believed to have been used to hijack trucks which were used to transport cigarettes.

Moffatview SAPS confirmed that three cases were already opened at Muldersdrift, Bekkersdal and Florida SAPS for truck hijacking. The four suspects were arrested and taken to Moffatview police station for detention.
