THE AGM of Eikenhof Women’s Institute took place on Wednesday March 11, with a new president and new committee announced.

Outgoing president Joy Boswell spoke about the past year and what the members had achieved and enjoyed, with guest speakers and the occasional outing.

“It’s been a good year with interesting meetings each month as well as our International Day in August, where we were treated to a talk about New Zealand, and afterwards enjoyed a light lunch of New Zealand like cuisine,” said Joy.

Every year members collect points on what they put on show each month, If they don’t reach 1 500 points, these are accumulated and carried over. Three members, Pat leech, Jetta Batty and Marjorie Latimer, were awarded certificates for reaching this total. After the points were all added up, Marjorie came first with 2 281, Pat second with 1 485 and Anne Du Plessis with 1 198.

Certificates were also handed out in recognition for how many years loyal members have been with the WI. Dina Vogt and Marjorie Latimer each totalled 30 years, Norma Fordred 10 years and Heroldine Walters five years.

“Belonging to an organisation such as this carries weight worldwide. We are an organisation with a voice. In saying this we don’t want our numbers to drop and encourage women from all walks of life to come and join us,” added Joy.

Joy thanked all the members, committee members and tea ladies for their support throughout the year.

It came as no surprise to see Joy voted in again as president, joined by her committee, whose roles will be announced at next month’s meeting on Wednesday April 8.
