Busted with a hijacking device

This is the reason why your car cannot be tracked after a hijack or theft.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – Have you ever wondered why some vehicles with a tracking device get hijacked or stolen but are never recovered?

You hear the helicopter above and think they are about to recover a missing vehicle but they don’t. Maybe that is because they are probably looking at the last place where the signal of a recently stolen or hijacked vehicle was last picked up.

Moffatview police recently arrested a suspect who was carrying an easy to use signal jamming device that was used to jam the signal of vehicles during theft and hijack.

With this device, electronic signals can be jammed at any time. Interestingly, the stolen or hijacked vehicle is used as a source of power by connecting to the cigarette lighter port. Using this device allows the hijackers or thieves enough time to locate the tracker and do whatever they want to do to the vehicle before it goes for scrapping or sale.

Warrant Officer Nyandeni and Constable Ledwaba were very brave to follow information received about the carrying suspect, who jumped out of a moving vehicle at the corner of Verona and Lang streets, Rosettenville, to try and escape after realising he was tailed. The suspect was caught shortly after hurting himself trying to jump over a razor fence.

Communications Officer Constable Bila advises motorists to be very careful and always make sure their vehicle doors are locked even after using remote locking.

Of course this does not mean that the device can beat any tracking device. Some car tracking companies use new technology.
