Stand up and deliver

The much anticipated Stand and Deliver tournament will take place on Saturday March 14 at Emperors Palace.

RYNO Liebenberg has on various occasions challenged Tommy Oosthuizen to share the ring with him and determine who the best of them all is.

“You will be doing the running on the evening and I will be hunting you,” said Liebenberg.

The Hot Box Gym under-trainer Colin Nathan has also offered Oosthuizen some running shoes: “What is the number that you are wearing,” he asked in a recent interview.

“I am only going to do my job and my job is boxing, and that is what I will do when we I will fight you,” said Tommy Oosthuizen from the Hammer Gym in Boksburg under the watchful eye of Harold Volbrecht.

The much anticipated “Stand and Deliver” tournament will take place on Saturday March 14 at Emperors Palace. The tournament is presented by Golden Gloves Boxing Promotions and will promise to be a humdinger.

The bouts on the undercard will include:

The Commonwealth lightweight title bout will see the unbeaten Ghanaian Richard Comney take on SA champion Thompson Mokwana. Ashley Dlamini will challenge SA junior lightweight champion Jasper Seroka. Dowayne Combrink from Alberton will fight Giovanni Bushby for the WBA Pan-African title.

It’s a match-up situation between the two most credible boxers, Oosthuizen and Liebenberg, in South Africa, when they eventually face each other in the ring. Oosthuizen, the technical boxer, versus Liebenberg the fighter, and it’s a thumbs-up from the boxing fraternity and will most probably be a sold-out affair.

The previous attendance record for a box and dine was set up by Laila Ali in 2007 vs Gwen O’Neil at Emperors Palace, attended by the late Nelson Mandela. The fans of both camps have responded and tickets are flying for this headline fight.
