CANSA Shavathon at The Glen

Volunteers at the CANSA Shavathon had their hands full with shoppers signing up to support their national initiative.

OAKDENE – THE fashion court at The Glen was crowded with beautifully multi-coloured heads which had just received a shave and spray from the CANSA Shavathon setup after giving a donation on February 28 and March 1.

Annual volunteer and cancer survivor of more than seven years, Rudi Storm from Alberton, and delightful Shavathon organiser JJ Ackerman from FNB Head Office were back again this year raising awareness and playing their part.

“We’re back again this year and we’re here to do good. The volunteers and staff from FNB are here,” said JJ Ackerman.

Their efforts consist of helping people who lose their hair to the dreadful disease to feel normal again when in public spaces.

Once again they came with volunteers from the JJ Ackerman office and students from various universities who have participated annually.

Shoppers played their part in giving a donation of R50 for a shave and R25 for a spray for any colour preferred, contributing towards making the lives of cancer patients a wee bit easier.

The hair collected at the Shavathon drive is used to make wigs for cancer patients and survivors, who had lost their hair during the fight against cancer.
