Keeping Up with the Koopasamys – Reality comedy

Keeping Up with the Koopasamys spoofs reality TV show, Keeping up with the Kardashians, returns to Gold Reef City’s Lyric Theatre on January 31.

The same team that brought you the smash hit comedy show, Curry on Laughing have created another crazy comedy performance which includes Jailoshini Naidoo, Sans Moonsamy and Eubulus Tracy.

Audiences can expect a number of hilarious sketches that make up a wacky story line which will include the nosy back door neighbour, the sister’s drunk husband and uncle’s bedroom fancies to auntie’s shoe hiding addiction.  Sex, thugs and roti rolls… the Kardashians fail in comparison to the Koopasamys.

Love Swings

Join the Johannesburg Big Band and two of South Africa’s finest vocal talents this Valentine’s Day in a scintillating celebration of love in Love Swings at The Lyric Theatre, Gold Reef City for one night only on Saturday February 14 at 20:00.

After three successful shows, the world-class 17-piece Johannesburg Big Band, directed by Adam Howard, returns to The Lyric Theatre providing a charming musical journey that celebrates LOVE in true, classic big band tradition.

Love Swings will pay tribute to the greatest love songs made popular by the stars who performed and composed them.

Joining them on stage will be SA’s finest award-winning jazz vocalist Gloria Bosman (Shanghai Expo in China; African Songbook; Porgy & Bess, The Mandela Trilogy; Songs of Migration.) and the crowd favourite with his velvety vocals; Timothy Moloi (FIFA 2010 World Cup Opening Ceremony, My Big Band Valentine; My Favourite Swings; Starlight Classics, Aladdin).

Love Swings will be a night out on the town to remember, transporting the audience through a roller-coaster ride of their favourite love songs.

The Parlotones live in concert at the Lyric Theatre

Fresh of the back of their December summer tour, The Parlotones will be playing a unique show at The Lyric Theatre on February 20.

The multi award winning band has toured internationally since 2007, spending months on the road in the UK, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and North America. They have also toured in South America, Canada, Australia, Japan and Russia playing with the likes of Coldplay, Starsailor, Snow Patrol and Blue October.

The Parlotones have been involved with Earth Hour, Live Earth, Nelson Mandela’s 46664 and the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital, Rhino Force, United Against Malaria and in 2012 they climbed Mt Kilimanjaro as part of gesture to end violence against women and children in Africa.

 ‘Badtamatsi Returns’ at Gold Reef City’s Lyric Theatre

Gold Reef City’s Lyric Theatre will host Badtamasti Returns, a spectacular night of dance, on Saturday February 21.

Badtamasti is a Jazzy Masala creation and aims to bring you something fresh and sizzling. The show will encompass a variety of genres weaved together to create new ways of movement.

Bollywood, contemporary and jazz fused together with Latin and hip-hop are just some of the dance moves audiences can expect to see.

Masti’, which when translated to English means having fun, promises to do exactly that by ensuring the audience has the time of their lives.

SA Indies Music Week

The 2nd annual SA Indies Music Week will be held at Gold Reef City’s Lyric Theatre from February 23 to 27.

The festival will boast new music, fireworks and festivities that will make any concert goer be left yearning for more. The event will also include workshops daily which will contain various lessons that the bands and all attendees will find useful in their music career walk.

In the first round, a call for submissions has been made and bands from all over the country are submitting their material. From all the submissions, top finalists will be selected and invited to perform live during the SA Indies Music Week where further selections will be made for those that will embark on the international travels.

Music fans are invited to come and discover new and talented musicians, hear some exciting sounds and interact with other people who have similar interests in music.

Exhibit A comedy launch at Gold Reef City’s Lyric Theatre

Mpho Popps Modikoane is set to launch his one-man comedy show Exhibit A at Gold Reef City’s Lyric Theatre on February 28 to March 1.

With a style all of his own, irresistible stage personality and a reputation for mesmerizing audiences, Mpho Popps Modikoane has blazed across our screens in Strictly Come Dancing. He is also known for making thousands of people laugh with massive stand-up comedy shows like Mass Hysteria and Blacks Only.

Now, after years of doing comedy line-ups, he has gone solo and will host his first one-man show.

Be sure not to miss this show, as it promises to charm your stomach muscles and will definitely be a no-holds barred journey into some of the crazy things that happen in Popps’ head and world.
