Learners shine at Annual Speech and Drama Awards

The Awards Afternoon is a culmination of the year's work, and highlights the importance of Speech and Drama skills and techniques as necessary in all young achievers' lives.

JOHANNESBURG – Parents, grandparents and friends of leaners attending Urvashi Bhika’s Speech and Drama Studio were entertained at their Annual Awards Afternoon held at the Wits Theatre recently.

Students’ creative reading projects were on display for all to view. Talented pupils of all ages performed sketches, prose, poetry, songs and monologues to a packed theatre. The audience was taken on a journey from classic folk tales and Crazy Clowns to Mary Poppins and a Chinese Lotus Flower Dance. A special tribute to women by the senior class was an outstanding and touching performance with self-empowerment as a theme.

Learners received awards for their hard work. Awards were also handed to 10 learners who completed various graded examinations in Speech and Drama through Trinity Guildhall, London. Raahil Ranchod, Ishita Vallabh, Sher Banu Omar and Zeenat Moolla passed with distinction (above 85 per cent), while Jaimini Ranchod, Zahra Chothia, Nasiha Moosa, Aarya Poonee, Maya Ranchod and Naazneen Moosa attained merit passes (above 70 per cent).

Urvashi Bhika’s Speech and Drama Studio is based in Robertsham and has students from most southern suburbs of Johannesburg (Robertsham, Ridgeway, Bassonia, Glenvista, Winchester Hills, Kibler Park, Crown Gardens, Ormonde, and from as far away as Lenasia,Greenside and Emmarentia).
