MAFFAT -Park – On Wednesday November 19 at about 21:00, the Risana Block Watch residents heard a thumping noise coming from the silver ball reservoir in Moffat Park. This noise persisted for about an hour.

They called the Moffatview Community Policing Forum Sector 2 (SCF2) patrollers to assist in ascertaining the origin of the noise. The walls of the reservoir were checked and a hole was found in the rear wall of the reservoir. However, the perpetrators had run away, leaving behind a hacksaw.

The Johannesburg Water security were contacted by the Risana Block Watch. The security arrived at 22:30 and posted guards at the Silver Ball.

The frightening thing about this incident is that if the Risana Block Watch had not initiated a response, parts of Johannesburg South would have been without water again. The Risana Block Watch and the Moffatview Community Policing Forum Sector 2 (SCF2) patrollers saved Johannesburg Water a huge amount of money and inconvenience.

Residents need to be aware of what is happening around them. If anything looks or sounds suspicious, report it to the South African Police on 10111 immediately.

For any queries contact the Moffatview CPF chairman, Godfrey Mrobongwana 083 716 1277.
