Southern Derby – rivalry continues Orlando Pirates vs Kaizer Chiefs

PSL matches continues over this weekend with Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates facing each other in the derby.

The Southern Derby between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, due to have been played last month, has been rescheduled for Saturday December 6.

The derby will start at 15:00 at FNB Stadium.

The rivalry between these two sides will continue, and is considered one of the most fiercely contested matches in African football. It was first contested on January 24, 1970 and this year will be no exception when they face each other.

Kaizer Chiefs are currently top of the Premier Soccer League log leader with 33 points, while Orlando Pirates are hovering around seventh position with accumulated 18 points thus far. Chiefs seem to be on a winning streak in the league, and Pirates have all to play for to improve their position.

In the meantime, Orlando Pirates Head Coach Vladimir Vermezovic has submitted his resignation from the club. VV provided the club with a 30 day notice period as required by labour law in South Africa.

Orlando Pirates has accepted VV’s resignation. VV stated in his letter that he is prepared to furnish the reasons for his sudden resignation to the Orlando Pirates Football Club Chairman, Dr. Irvin Khoza.

Matches between the two rivals attract a large fanbase, and this will once again be proven on Saturday, when the two sides clash for their PSL derby.

Spectators are urged to go to the match early. Several road closures are applicable on the day. Public transport is available. JMPD and Gauteng Metro urge the spectators to make use of public transport.
