SOUTH HILLS – Moffatview police spokesperson Constable Bila confirmed that a suspect for the botched hijacking was arrested for murder and perjury on Thursday morning November 20.

“The driver of the botched hijacking was arrested. They connected him with the murder of Pedro Fransisco. He was detained at Johannesburg Central Prison cells,” said Constable Bila.

The COURIER reported on the stories: ‘Passenger shot in a botched hijacking’ on September 23 and ‘Botched hijacking’ on September 30.

A 41-year-old man was shot dead on Monday September 15 in a suspected hijacking. Nine weeks later the 36-year-old driver who was with him has been arrested for his murder.

In an exclusive interview with the wife of the deceased conducted just after his arrest on November 20, more light was shed on this incident.

She said the police has incriminating evidence about this case. “This guy (driver) has conned us out of more than R700 000 in cash. He told us, he and his wife will organise finance for us to purchase cheap cars, trucks and furniture. We trusted him as we lived in a same complex in Linmeyer.

“My husband’s death was premeditated, he was killed on the day the ‘driver’ promised to get the trucks. Before they went to fetch the trucks, my husband told the driver that if he doesn’t get the trucks, he wants his money back. That was the day we saw him alive in the company of the driver. Why did he kill him, he could have taken the money and run away,” explained the wife.

The deceased was buried in Mozambique on Monday September 22.

The case continues and the COURIER will keep readers informed.
