Timeline of events since Meyiwa’s passing

* October 30; Senzo Meyiwa’s funeral held at a bigger venue, Meyiwa was laid to rest at the Chesterville Heroes’ Acre. A special train left for the funeral from Umlazi station in Durban at 08:15 on November 1. As a mark of respect, the Soweto derby match between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates which was due to be played on the day of the funeral was postponed.
* October 29; two suspects were arrested on Wednesday October 29 in connection with the murder of Bafana Bafana Captain, Senzo Meyiwa. The two men were being held for questioning after they were arrested in Nongoma, in KwaZulu-Natal. It is believed that the suspects were arrested following a tip-off by members of the public. According to police, it was the identikits of the possible suspects had led them to the two men. Mpumalanga Black Aces goalkeeper Jackson Mabokgwane took to social media after news of Meyiwa’s passing and said: “I’ve known u since u where 15yrs and i never saw u angry, (the ever smiling Senzo). What a loss for the nation. Condolences to his three f’s family, friends and fans… his club, all soccer fans and to all soccer fraternity. We will never forget you. Goodbye Nzori.” SIC
* October 28; plans for Senzo Meyiwa’s memorial service were under way; on October 29, the Meyiwa family confirmed that two memorial services would be held for the Bafana Bafana Captain and Orlando Pirates coach, Senzo Meyiwa. Both memorial services would be held on October 30 and October 31 at Durban’s City Hall and the other memorial service would be held at Moses Mabida Stadium.
* October 27; Senzo Meyiwa was reported dead after an alleged robbery gone wrong, a public outcry ensued after South Africans got wind of the tragic news. The news of Bafana Bafana Captain hit South Africa hard, with many taking to social media to express their devastation on his untimely death.
* October 26; police reported that two men entered Senzo Meyiwa’s girlfriend’s house in Vosloorus, Eastrand. Meyiwa was shot in front of girlfriend Kelly Khumalo following a confrontation with armed men who had entered the house demanding money and valuables, while one man waited outside. Following the shooting all three suspects fled on foot from the scene. Meyiwa was declared dead on arrival at Botshelong hospital in Vosloorus.
