JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – Members of 12 congregations from different denominations met with experienced social workers on Tuesday October 21 to reflect on the poverty in the South.

The well-attended meeting in the church building of the Gereformeerde Kerk Johannesburg-Suid in Victoria Street, Oakdene, was not only informative but also inspired those present to continue with efforts to assist those who suffer without the necessary means, both financially and spiritually.

Representatives of the Christian Social Council, Taking Hands and Helping Hand shared their observations and experiences and responded to questions, and several churches related how the Lord has used them and the challenges they face.

It was also agreed that working committee information to all churches in the area will be passed on and coordinated actions promoted. It was agreed that they all need each other for advice and support, and that hopefully even more churches may be represented at a next meeting.
