bizhub Highveld Lions in firing spirit

bzhub Highveld Lions will face The Unlimited titans in an ODI.

THE Unlimited Titans have the task of putting in a greatly improved performance with the ball when they face the bizhub Highveld Lions in the Momentum One-Day Cup at Bidvest Wanderers today October 17.

The Jukskei derby gets underway at 15:00 with gates opening at 14:00.

“Although frustrating, yesterday’s rained out match in Durban gave our batsmen some important time in the middle and we were excited to see star performances from Neil (McKenzie) and Jean (Symes), so not all in all a waste of time,” commented Skipper, Stephen Cook.

“Few things match up to a Jukskei derby though and we are gearing up for this encounter on home ground. It’s always a big one.”

Despite scoring two excellent hundreds in their opening match against the Sunfoil Dolphins last week, the Titans allowed their opposition to chase down a target of 301 in 42 overs.
“It’s done and buried,” said Titans captain Henry Davids. “Obviously we should have won, but it was a very good batting wicket and you get days like that.
“We were sub-standard in the field and probably performed at 60 per cent of what we’re capable of with the ball, so we need to rectify that.”

The Titans have not been panicked into major changes, and have instead retained the same 13-man squad for Friday.
The Lions are also unchanged from the squad that travelled to Durban for Wednesday’s washout against the Dolphins, but may consider bringing Chris Morris into the playing XI.

Such is the competition for places in the Lions bowling line-up that Morris was left out on Wednesday, despite recovering his fitness.
“Everyone is showing good form at the moment so we have some tough selections to make,“ said coach Geoff Toyana.
“Chris Morris is a gun player for us, though, so if there’s some grass on the wicket then he could come back into the side.”
